WELCOME!!!

Since our retirement several years ago, we have
been on the move almost continuously: sailing Live Now, long distance hiking, and taking extensive road trips (therapy hasn't helped). We established this Blog to share our small adventures with family and friends and, as our aging memories falter, remind ourselves of just how much fun we're having. We hope you enjoy it. Your comments and questions are greatly appreciated. Our reports here are mostly true except in those cases where there is no way for others to verify the actual facts.

One More Day

We wanted to spend one more day at this beautiful spot~~after the masses had gone back home~~so we hunkered down, sat on the big rock, read, and watched the river go by while happily watching the other campers go back home after the weekend.

The next morning, June 1st, we packed up and left the site at the Kern River.  We went into town and had a nice breakfast at the Cracked Egg Cafe in Kernville and went to the ranger station to check on weather conditions, water supply, etc. for the trail.   We took a last walk around town and spied some antique cars (cars that are more or less the same vintage as my body) in a garage on a side street.  While pausing to admire them, the owner came to the fence and asked if we would like a closer look.  Well, of course.  He had a beautifully restored '47 Mercury, a '52 Ford, and '56 Ford and an '08 Mustang.  In his garage, still being restored, was a '57 Ford, which is the type of car John and I used when we were first dating.  This guy's, however, was a convertible.

We visited with this guy for over an hour as he lovingly described how the cars were restored, who did what, etc. all the while adding little tidbits about his recent heart surgery and the loss of his son last year in a motorcycle accident.  People are very interesting.  Another lovely chance encounter.
