WELCOME!!!

Since our retirement several years ago, we have
been on the move almost continuously: sailing Live Now, long distance hiking, and taking extensive road trips (therapy hasn't helped). We established this Blog to share our small adventures with family and friends and, as our aging memories falter, remind ourselves of just how much fun we're having. We hope you enjoy it. Your comments and questions are greatly appreciated. Our reports here are mostly true except in those cases where there is no way for others to verify the actual facts.

Death Valley 2.0

Thursday, May 27, finds us breaking camp at Furnace Creek and heading north in Death Valley to take in the rest of the sites.  We hiked Golden Canyon and headed for the sand dunes.  Romped around on the sand dunes (wore myself out) and then headed west out of the park towards Sequoia, and a place where John plans to resume the trail.

Learned a valuable lesson, and that is ~~ when you see gas, no matter how expensive ~~ better get some.  Didn't run out, but had to backtrack miles in order to fill the tank.  From now on....

Got to Kernville, a really great old western town that was the setting for many Hollywood movies, and began looking for a campsite.  Everything was full.  It's Thursday, what gives?  The nice lady at the campground informed us out-of-it retired folks that it is Memorial Day weekend, and if you did not have a reservation, you're kinda out of luck.  But, you can just go along the Kern River and camp anywhere.  We found a parking lot, complete with porta-potty, and slept in the car in the parking lot.  Will figure out what to do in the morning.
